Write in French and shine

You can speak or write with mistakes and still be understood. And that's not a problem at all, as long as you can exchange ideas, hold a conversation, and connect with people.

In fact, I firmly believe that mistakes shouldn't hold you back from anything. You're not more intelligent or more interesting because you don't make mistakes.

Aiming higher, now and then

You can very well stop studying French altogether, go no further, and simply focus on exchange, encounters, understanding and discovery. Some things will come to you by osmosis anyway, and you might discover an ease you never suspected you had.

That said, you can also seek, from time to time, to go further — to move beyond your current level for the satisfaction of mastery, to reach a subtler world. Getting your writing polished is, in that sense, a gift you give yourself.

The effect of a text that rings true

A few years ago, I had some conversation practice with an American gentleman who didn't feel confident speaking French. I told him it was important that he be able to introduce himself and talk about his life with ease. So he wrote a text about his life, his career, his family. I corrected it so that it would sound as natural as possible, while staying as close as I could to his original words. The following time, he read it to me — his text, the one he'd written, the one I'd corrected.

I completely forgot it was a corrected text. It was truly his text, and hearing him speak about himself this way moved me deeply. It was as if everything he said carried a greater clarity — an accuracy and precision — without the interference of mistakes my ear would inevitably have noticed. Because when you speak to a native speaker, even one who understands you perfectly well, they always hear your mistakes.

So here's what I'm offering: a correction service for your own texts. I only have a few slots available, as this is work I do myself, carefully, alongside the podcast.

You can do whatever you like with it: print it, work from the corrections, read it back as often as you wish.

 

Finally, every corrected text is read aloud by me and recorded as an audio file, just like the podcast episodes. You'll receive an audio version with accurate, natural pronunciation.

Send me your text any time during the week, before Friday; it will be corrected over the weekend, and you'll receive the correction and audio recording the following Monday.
