What are good evening activities in Paris?

Interior of Salle Gaveau concert hall in Paris showing ornate architecture, tiered seating, and grand piano on stage

Last Tuesday evening, my neighbor Jacques offered me a spare ticket to see pianist Jean-François Zygel at Salle Gaveau. I had an hour to get there, so I took the train to Saint-Lazare and enjoyed a stroll through the 8th arrondissement to reach the concert hall. Jacques and I chose seats in the first balcony rather than the orchestra level. When Zygel sat down at the piano and started playing, I recognized Debussy immediately. The whole evening happened because Jacques had an extra ticket and thought to ask if I wanted to come along – which is just how these things work in Paris.
